Biophilic Office Day Gdansk: Workplace Design & Wellbeing

On Tuesday, 19th May, the Balma showroom in Gdansk played host to an inspiring event in the Biophilic Office Day series. Bringing together an exclusive group of architects, designers, and real estate experts, the gathering explored the creation of workspaces that seamlessly combine sustainable development with authentic human wellbeing. The organisers primary aim was to demonstrate that the ultimate office environment is born at the intersection of three complementary perspectives: human needs, proximity to nature, and advanced building technology.

The main highlight of the programme featured thematic presentations by invited industry experts, each representing a distinct viewpoint on the contemporary workplace:

Agnieszka Durlik (Happy Plants Studio) shared her expert insights into the role of live nature in interior design, proving that biophilia is far more than just potted plants on desks. It is a strategic tool that supports both the physical and mental health of office users.
Anna Essler-Lango (APA Wojciechowski Architekci) approached the subject from an architectural and ESG technology standpoint, highlighting the necessity of designing timeless, eco-friendly, and structurally flexible buildings.
Maciej Suchanowski (Torus) outlined the evolution of modern office spaces and the role of biophilia in the commercial real estate market. He emphasised that the office of the future must smoothly cater to the needs of the individual, the team, and the entire corporate community by offering balanced zones for focused work, collaboration, and relaxation.

The speakers' presentations clearly demonstrated that in times of dynamic market shifts, organizations that succeed in creating environments that are functional, inspiring, and wellbeing-oriented will secure a distinct competitive edge. Biophilia is no longer treated merely as an aesthetic trend, but as a pivotal, integral component of neuroarchitecture within commercial interiors.

The formal part of the evening concluded with networking over refreshments. Informal discussions amidst the greenery and Balma furniture arrangements provided guests with an excellent opportunity to share ideas freely. These shared conversations ultimately confirmed how much the design industry needs fresh perspectives and a completely new definition of the 'modern office'.
