We are very pleased to publish Balma's first Sustainability Report, in which we present the ESG initiatives undertaken in 2023. We have categorized our activities into seven areas consistent with the ISO 26000 standard: Organizational Governance, Human Rights, Labor Practices, Environment, Fair Operating Practices, Consumer Issues, and Community Involvement and Development.
“We create with humility, sensitivity, and imagination. We strive to act conscientiously, carefully, and with foresight. We carry out actions that we consider our duty. We take initiatives that the law may not yet require of us, but we already demand of ourselves. For years, our operations have been based on certified systems compliant with ISO standards—in the area of quality and management on ISO 9001, and in the area of environment on ISO 14001,” wrote Michał Balcerkiewicz, CEO of Balma. He added, “This report collects and presents our current activities in the environmental, social, and corporate governance areas, using the classification consistent with ISO 26000. We consider these as best practices that we wish to continue developing.”
In preparing the report, we also conducted a materiality assessment process, in which we invited Balma’s management team to participate. This allowed us to identify key and important stakeholders, considering our impact on them and the significance of these stakeholders on our operations. This process enabled us to plan our strategic actions for the years 2024–2026 with greater precision.
In developing our strategy, we considered six out of the seventeen Sustainable Development Goals (Goals 4, 8, 9, 12, 13, and 17), which are of key importance to us and are consistent with Balma's business strategy. Our ESG strategy is also based on dialogue with stakeholders, market trends, as well as environmental and social challenges. The development of our ESG strategy was further supported by insights from the employee and distributor satisfaction and engagement survey conducted at the end of 2023 and beginning of 2024.
We trust that this collection of our current ESG initiatives and our planned strategic actions will serve as a source of inspiration for sharing best practices and contribute to supporting the implementation of the 2030 Agenda adopted by the United Nations.
